HS Joins Walk to Fight Cancer

Members of the HS team meet at the Revlon Run/Walk starting line in Times Square.

A Health Sciences team of volunteers participated in the 1999 Revlon Run/Walk for Women, an event designed to raise awareness and funds to fight women’s cancers, in New York City on May 1. Sally McLain, director of marketing and promotions for the Office of External Relations, organized and served as captain of the group, which included Columbia employees and some of their family members.

In 1998, the event was run for the first time in New York as a result of its success in Los Angeles. In its second year in Manhattan, the race through Central Park attracted more than 40,000 participants. The Health Sciences team had more than 15 volunteers, who raised a total of almost $2,000.
