RESEARCH INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES:
- Dr. Geliebter is currently conducting an NIH study in overweight participants comparing
those with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) to those without the disorder. Various physiological and
psychological measurements are made before, during, and after weight loss on a 900-kcal/day
formula diet. Changes in weight and body composition are also assessed.
- Two breakfast studies were conducted in normal and overweight participants comparing high
and low fiber cereals. Factors of interest included serum glucose and cholesterol in relation to
appetite and body composition.
- A study was completed comparing different modes of exercise (aerobic or strength training)
on body composition changes during dieting in overweight subjects. The results are being further
analyzed for changes in bone density between exercise modes.
