Dr.
Patricia Werner completed her dissertation in molecular biology at the Swiss
Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich at the Institute of Animal Science.
Her PhD research focused on leptin and uncoupling protein 2 and 3 gene expression
in the adipose tissue and muscle tissue of pigs. Dr. Werner was awarded a one-year
post-doctoral fellowship from the Swiss National
Science Foundation to come to the Obesity Research Center to learn the methodologies
for conducting energy metabolism studies in humans. Her main interest is the
regulation of energy expenditure during and after weight loss. Measurements
of 24-hour energy expenditure and resting metabolic rate are performed in the
Columbia
Human Respiratory Chamber at St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center.
