Dan Hoffman, Ph.D.

Daniel J. Hoffman, Ph.D.

Dr. Daniel J. Hoffman is currently at Rutgers University. Dr. Hoffman received his doctorate in human nutrition from Tufts University where he conducted research on human energy and substrate metabolism. Dr. Hoffman's dissertation, "Obesity Risk Factors in Nutritionally Stunted Children from the Shantytowns of Sao Paulo, Brazil", studied the relationship between undernutrition early in life and metabolic risk factors for obesity in developing countries. Dr. Hoffman has considerable experience in conducting large field studies, measurements of energy expenditure using doubly labeled water and indirect calorimetry, and controlled food intake studies.

Dr. Hoffman's major interest is in the relationship between body composition and energy expenditure and the respective changes in each as part of the etiology and treatment of obesity. In addition, he is interested in various public health aspects of obesity, such as the economic costs of Obesity in developing countries.
