NIH T32 Training Grant

The Department of Anesthesiology is one of only seven institutions throughout the country to receive NIH support in the form of a NRSA Anesthesiology Postdoctoral Training Grant. We are currently in the 15th year of our T-32 which has become the cornerstone of our research training program. Many of our research fellows have successfully made the transition to full time faculty within the department.

The goal of this program is to develop clinician-scientists who will be leaders in the field of anesthesia research. Every effort is made to provide the training grant fellows the opportunity to develop their skills and expertise to explore research problems relevant to anesthesiology. Participants are paired with mentors representing clinician-scientists as well as basic scientists from a variety of disciplines throughout the CUMC community. Most, but not all, of our trainees are recruited directly from our highly competitive residency program. These trainees are expected to spend at least 2 years and a minimum of 80% effort devoted to research. In conjunction with their research activities, our T-32 trainees are also required to attend an annual course entitled “Responsible Conduct of Research and Related Policy Issues”.
